Presence. Light. Connection. Music. SHERNI is a collection of everything that is Gracy Singh: “I’m designing to debut my outlook on the world, and how my exposure to the different cultures I’m part of has combined them into a grungy, golden, desi, (sub)cultured fusion. I am fiercely representing no body of thought, emotion, or experience but my own.”

The word “Sherni” means tigress in Hindi, and is Gracy’s nickname at home. This collection is grand and unapologetic, as a tigress would be. Each piece is an ornate, meticulous work, drawing on the intersectionality of Gracy’s life and fusing them together. The silk brocade fabric was custom-sourced in Delhi, India, with the help of artisans who have been in the trade for generations, under the guidance of SHERNI’s sponsor, the founder of label Vedah Designs. Metallic thread called Zari reflects and shines light, an aspect that Gracy calls her “4th dimension.” Openings in the clothing allude to Indian culture. Lotus flowers, the national flower of India, emerge from the cut-out spaces. One of these cut-outs, when viewed sideways, has the silhouette of the gaping teeth of a sherni

SHERNI strikes a balance between boiler room sets, flashing with light, and the stunning vibrance that the sun casts in its permanence. Gracy doesn’t want something too easily digestible: “If it’s hard to love, I already love it”. Each piece is meant to draw the eyes of the viewer and give them the chance to see the world through Gracy’s eyes. “I can feel myself grow when I’m uncomfortable. I can feel myself live”. Fast, bass-heavy music defines the SHERNI collection. “Supercharged music isn’t for everybody, but it is loved so fiercely by the people who get it.” The uncomfortable edge in these songs defines this collection: capturing the beauty in loving what isn’t easy to love, and creating something “out there” and non-conforming.
