Mitzy

Mitzy reflects on a future once imagined and already lived through. Responding to the outward looking optimism of the 1960s, when progress promised expansion and achievement, this collection considers what remains when those hopeful visions fall short. Rather than continuing forward, it turns back toward the Earth, the body, and lived human experience.

I grew up instilled with the concept of Sisu, an ethic of strength and perseverance in the face of adversity that informs this work’s commitment to longevity over excess. Constructed from dead stock wool blends, the garments emphasize warmth, weight, and durability. Color functions as a subtle assertion of life and resilience amid instability. Handmade hats and purses, formed through paper making with flax pulp, introduce texture and variation through process driven craft. Together, the collection looks toward a future shaped by care, resilience, sustainability, and joy.
