For Sabaa Kinanah, to make clothes is to speak. Rifling through her sister’s pattern books, she found it easier to express her inner thoughts in the way she stitched fabrics together rather than searching for the right words. In Held, Kinanah seeks to remind us to take care of the most important relationship we have: the one with ourselves. Held strips away distractions which invade our lives, the constant noise that covers the sound of our inner core, so that we can redirect ourselves to listen to our own being. To give ourselves time to uncover our central needs and desires, and to sit with and breathe with them, we get to know ourselves and give ourselves the care we deserve. We become Held.
